They lied to you. They LIED to us! Making a “good first impression” won’t get you the job. It won’t get you the client. It won’t even stop your business card from ending up in the trash. 🗑 🥲
Before I explain, SAVE this post for later. Trust me you’ll need it.
We’ve been taught that all we need to make a “good first impression” is:
1️⃣ Smile & creepy direct eye contact
2️⃣ Firmly shake someone’s sweaty hand (Ok, it’s actually my hands that are sweating because I’m hella nervous).
3️⃣ Let them lead the conversation & agree to all their words.
And while that’s not terribly terrible advice, it’s just not enough to get you a seat at the table.
So what is it that you need to do? Create a LASTING impression.
✅ Give them a reason to remember you.
✅ Confidently define what YOU do best.
✅ Connect over your shared passions.
